The Stylistics of Translation of One Thousand and One Artistic Nights by Khorasani Bezanjerdi

Abstract
BACKGROUND AND OBJECTIVES: It was assumed that the oldest translation of One Thousand and One Nights into Persian was done by Abdul Latif Tasuji; until recently, a newly discovered translation of this collection had been published, known as the artistic translation. The aforementioned translation is important and worthy of study for two reasons: First, this translation was completed in India about thirty years before Tasuji"s translation, in 1229 AH. Second, this translation was made from the Syrian branch of One Thousand and One Nights by Khorasani Bezanjerdi, which is older and more authentic than the Egyptian branch that was the basis of Tasuji"s work.
METHODOLOGY: This research was conducted using a descriptive-analytical method and based on library studies, in which the Khorasani translation was examined at three levels: linguistic, literary, and intellectual. The scope of the study is the artistic translation published by Mehdi Ganjavi and Meysam Alipour.
FINDINGS: The results of this study show that the translator is very interested in using rhyme and introducing new synonyms and combinations, and he deals more with word arrangement than Tasuji. Describing details is a feature of his prose. The extensive use of Arabic words is a feature of the translator"s prose; the hypothesis of the presence of Indian words in that translation is rejected. Although this translation is more of a report of the spirits of the anonymous creators of One Thousand and One Nights than the voice of the translator"s mind, in some cases a specific Khorasani perspective is reflected in it, including attention to ethics and religious statements.
CONCLUSION: It can be said that Tasuji followed the path of simple writing in Iran in the late Qajar era, and Khorasani Bezanjerdi chose complex and artistic prose, and despite several shortcomings and weaknesses, it can be claimed that artistic translation is a successful artistic example in the field of translating world literature into Persian in the last century.
